In response to the “14th Five-Year Plan on the Nationals’ Health” and the Macao SAR Government’s call for university-enterprise collaboration in promoting health research and development, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and Macau Konghon Biomedical Technology Development Group Company Limited agreed to set up the “University of Saint Joseph – Konghon Bio-Cellular Health Technology Joint Research and Development Institute”. The signing of the Memorandum of Academic Cooperation is the first step in the establishment of the Joint Research Institute. The two parties will establish an innovative platform for scientific research and R&D cooperation, implement the integration of “industrial”, “academic” and “research” sectors, and focus on promoting the application of biological and intelligent technologies in the field of medicine and health, so as to effectively respond to the needs of the community for the development of great health; at the same time, both parties will courageously undertake their social responsibilities to jointly promote the development of disciplines and professions, including, but not limited to, biotechnology, biomedicine, cellular health and nutrition, and endeavor to cultivate middle- and high-level talents with a sense of social responsibility, as well as visionary people with a technological approach to industrial services.

The University of Saint Joseph and Macau Konghon Biomedical Technology Development Group Company Limited will also carry out a series of collaborations, including the organisation of joint research teams in areas or topics of common interest, and the co-organisation of international symposiums, so that experts with rich experiences and scientific research capabilities can transfer their experience and values to the new generations of researchers, and to facilitate the integration of Macao’s researchers into the development blueprints of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao as well as that of the country.
